Every second, the sun produces 4 million joules of energy. Over the course of an hour, this equals the amount of energy required to meet the entire world's energy needs for a year. Choosing to use solar energy makes sense, but is it the right choice for you?
4 Reasons Solar Could Be the Best Choice for Your Home
Solar is the right choice for many homes, but not all. Both the homeowner and the installer must weigh up the benefits vs the cons for such a significant financial investment. We ourselves take this responsibility very seriously and you can be sure that we will provide you with our honest deliberations as to your home's suitability. As the homeowner, here are four things to consider too:
- Space for solar panels - solar panels are usually installed upon a roof, but if your property does not have adequate roof space, then a ground level installation may be suitable. As well as physical area, the position of your roof in regards to the sun and the amount of shading it has are also key factors to consider.
- High energy usage during the day - a home which uses more electricity during the day can use the solar energy generated, rather than sending it to the grid. A home which uses electricity heavily at night may consider the need to install battery storage and/or purchase it from the grid, rather than use what the sun generated for free earlier in the day.
- Reduction in on-grid electricity costs - the financial investment of installing a solar energy system become more affordable in recent times. Whereas the payback period (the time it takes to equalise the cost of the system vs your electricity bill reductions) does vary between households and for a multitude of reasons, the best way to look at the investment in solar is in the return on investment and the added value it gives to your home. There is also the ability to sell back to the grid, although prices are low for this currently. It would be fair to say that the majority of homes with solar installed do see a reduction in their monthly electricity bills.
- Environmental impact - solar energy is more environmentally friendly than that generated by most of New Zealand's grid electricity providers. Choosing solar power for your home helps you to play your part in reducing your environmental impact.
As you can see, the installation of solar energy isn't always clear cut. We'd like it to be clearer though, and that's why we're happy to discuss your property's specific requirements. Give us a call today to arrange an obligation free installation quote, or to discuss what we see as the specific benefits of installing solar at your home.
